Alright Y/A community. I am in need of some advice. I am currently a student trying to begin my career in a tough market. In order to gain some experience and make some a little money on the side, I recently applied to a handful of jobs on my schools career website. The good news was that I got two interviews! The bad news is that when I went to one of them, the receptionist informed me that the lady that was supposed to interview me (and who I had had all my email correspondence with) decided to take the day off without calling me or emailing me first to reschedule. I initially sent her a short but polite email saying that I was disappointed that I did not have the opportunity to meet with her, and asked if she would like to reschedule. I just received her reply today. This is it verbatim:
I’m sorry no one was available to interview. Unfortunately my dog died last week and I didn’t have a chance to email you and reschedule. Would you be available this week?
Now, call me crazy, but I find this a little bit insulting. I’m cooling off before I reply, but my question is, should I **** it up and go just to see what its like, OR should I email her back saying (politely!) that I would like to withdraw my application from consideration.
I already find the firm completely unprofessional not to mention that I wasted much of my day last Friday preparing for the interview and commuting a considerable distance to get there on time. However, as I mentioned, although there are certainly other jobs out there the market in my field is tough right now. What should I do?
Sorry this somehow ended up in the Parenting section!
