Is it rude not to send a thank you reply when a Professor answers your email?

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

I tend to send emails to my professors asking them questions and making sure I have the right information. They will reply, and sometimes, I am unsure if I should reply thank you to them for responding. Some professors never reply, and I am grateful when one does. But I figure they must have a lot of emails in their inbox and an email with a thank you reply might clog it up.

So what is it? Is it rude to not say thank you, or is it bothersome to do so for them?

Would a university professor mind me emailing him/her about an inquiry for a project?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

I’m currently in sixth form and doing the Extended Project and I would love to get some expert knowledge on the topic of my project. However I’m not sure whether any professors would be too busy to answer a few of my questions. I know this is a silly question, I just want to know if it’s normal for professors to answer inquiries from the public.

Intel or Internship?

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I am a highly motivated high school student who is going insane. I am currently enrolled in a program in my school where the students perform graduate level research. Eventually the work is entered into the Intel Science Talent Search competition. Right now I am in the process of emailing professors all over the country begging them to assist me as a mentor. I want to perform business related research, and I have had a hard time finding a mentor due to the nature of the topic. Due to my limited response I created a cover letter and high school level resume. My parents and I went to NYU. I knocked on doors explaining to the professors my task asking if they would assist me. Although I did not receive a mentor I was offered a graduate level internship by a prestigious marketing professor. With the amount of work required for both there is no way to accept the mentorship and continue toward intel, yet I am confused which to choose. If anyone has any insight on the college process help!

What undergrad colleges, MBA schools, & majors should i go to and take to become an investment banker?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I am 14 years old and I go to a fairly prestigious high school in madison, wi. I currently have a 4.0, I am on the wrestling team ( I expect to be captain in my senior year, and this year I won the most dedicated freshman award), I am on the baseball team, I am going to volunteer as a groundskeeper at my local little league, I have volunteer time for helping out with the youth wrestling club, I am in MENS Club (Men Encouraging Non-violent Strength), and next year I plan to join DECA club (a national marketing club). I have read about becoming an investment banker, and the job interests me a lot. My question is what undergrad school should I go to, and how to get in, what I should major in at that school, if I should do any internships, when and what MBA school I should go to, and what I should concentrate in there. Also, If anyone who knows about stocks wouldn’t mind emailing me to talk about them so I can really get to know about wall street and the stock market. Thank you.
